RISE Employment & Training Program

Rapid Increase of Skills & Employment

The RISE Employment & Training Program is a City of Orlando initiative hosted in partnership with CareerSource Central Florida to ensure Orlando’s residents impacted by COVID-19 have equitable access to opportunities for assessment, education, training, coaching and support services to measurably increase their employability.

To accomplish this goal and support residents in need of these services, the RISE Employment & Training Program provides by-appointment, in-person assistance to connect residents aged 18+ to job training and employment opportunities along with comprehensive wrap-around services including social services and case management to help participants succeed on their new career path.

Benefits of the new RISE Employment & Training Program include:

  • Connections to CareerSource Central Florida’s network of more than 100 job and vocational training programs.

  • Opportunity to have tuition fees covered.

  • Eligibility to receive a training subsidy in the amount of $125 per week to help cover the costs of transportation, housing, childcare while in a training program.

  • Access to a dedicated team to help program participants create an individual employment plan with connections to available job opportunities.

There are more than 100 approved job training programs which are typically between 5 and 22 weeks long. The list of approved programs is updated bi-annually by CareerSource Central Florida and is based on growing trends and workforce needs generally in six high-growth industries (Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing, IT/Finance, Hospitality, Construction, and Trade/Logistics).

Many residents are eligible to get tuition fees waived for participating in these job training programs through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the other funding sources, including funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The RISE Employment & Training Program and CareerSource Central Florida staff work closely with residents to determine their eligibility for having their tuition fees covered.

Through the RISE Employment & Training Program, City of Orlando residents can receive a training subsidy in the amount of $125 per week (up to 8 weeks) to help cover the costs of transportation, housing, childcare, and other needs while in their training program. The RISE Employment & Training Program staff verifies the resident’s participation in the job training program and disburses the training stipend weekly via electronic funds transfer.

Orlando employers are also encouraged to connect with the RISE Employment & Training Program to fulfill their workforce needs. Opportunities are available to connect with program participants for employment, internships, apprenticeships, on-the-job training and paid work-experience. Opportunities also exist for employers looking to upskill existing employees through customized training.
