Carrier Drive Roadway Improvements and Roundabout Project

Carrier Drive Roundabout map

Universal Studios is currently working on plans to improve Carrier Drive from Universal Boulevard to Kirkman Road to accommodate improved pedestrian and bicycle connectivity between the Universal Boulevard corridor and the Kirkman Road extension, currently under construction. Improvements will include a mixed-use path along the south side of the roadway, intersection improvements at Carrier Drive and Universal Boulevard and Carrier Drive and Kirkman Road, landscaping and possibly a roundabout at the Carrier Drive and Lakehurst Drive intersection.

The project will not only improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity it will also improve the overall traffic flow from the Universal Resort hotels at International Drive to the new theme park area under construction south of Sand Lake Road.

The project is currently in 60% design awaiting a public meeting prior to design completion.

Universal Studios Orlando has constructed a large resort located at the corner of Universal Boulevard and International Drive (Universal’s Endless Summer Resort) and is currently in the planning and design phase for a new theme park to be located south of Sand Lake Road (Universal's Epic Universe). Anticipating an increase in the number of passenger vehicle, bus and pedestrian/bicycle trips between the two properties and from adjoining developments, Universal is proposing to make updates to several roadways in the area, including this section of Carrier Drive. Additional improvements are being constructed at the Kirkman Road and Sand Lake Road interchange and Kirkman Road is being extended south from the current terminus towards International Drive.
