Citywide Reclaimed Water Inspections

City crews continue to inspect the city's reclaimed water system. It is not unusual to see work crews and vehicles leave, return and, leave again during inspection hours. For more information please see project necessity and potential impact tabs.

The city will proactively inspect its reclaimed water system citywide.

Periodically, the city's Water Reclamation Division will proactively inspect the city's reclaimed water system citywide.

Once the inspections start, constituents will notice crews and equipment working in the public right-of-way intermittently . City crews will inspect access points, pipelines, and irrigation systems. The city will also use this opportunity to verify the reclaimed water system has no cross-connections. Checking for cross-connections helps maintain the city's drinking water quality by making certain the reclaimed water system is separate from the potable water system.

Constituents do not need to be home or prepare for the inspections. Crews will not enter private property. Should access to private property become necessary, city crews will seek approval from the property owner before entering the grounds. Please know, there may be brief or intermittent reclaimed water interruptions during project hours.

The direct impact on constituents will be minimal. Again, residents will notice crews and equipment in the public right-of-way intermittently. Project hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. There may be opportunities for weekend work. Adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances can create delays or prolong the inspection process.

A reminder, constituents may experience brief or intermittent reclaimed water interruptions. Solid waste, recycling, and other services will continue as scheduled. Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access.

The proactive inspection of the reclaimed water system allows the city to identify locations where sediment may be trapped. Trapped sediment can potentially create a blockage in the line that can potentially cause low water pressure. This citywide inspection will help lessen opportunities for future problems and maintain the system's efficiency.

The City of Orlando’s Water Reclamation Division is required by Florida Administrative Code 62-610.469 to conduct inspections within the reclaimed water service area to verify proper connections, monitor proper use of reclaimed water, and minimize the potential for cross-connections.
