Grand National Drive Widening Project Phase I

BrickInstall_LakeEolaHeights_WebBanner.jpg

This project involves widening cross sections of Grand National Drive from Oak Ridge Road to Vanguard Street from two lanes to four lanes.  The project will include drainage and street lightening improvements, improved pedestrian features, multi-use trails and other features to improve vehicular traffic as well as safety.  We expect to complete this project in the first quarter of 2025.

The project's final goal is to alleviate traffic associated with part of the Ultimate I-4 project and to serve as a parallel to relieve traffic capacity for Kirkman Road.

Traffic through Grand National Drive will be affected during construction. Although, the temporary traffic control plan allows one lane access in each direction throughout most of the length of the project, there will be full lane closures in one of the phases from Oakridge Rd to Fun Spot Way. During this full closure, vehicular traffic will follow a detour plan to interconnect sections of Grand National Drive through International Drive.

Driveway access will be maintained to all properties throughout construction. The contractor will coordinate with property/business owner before and during construction across driveways.  Also, properties affected still have other means of access. Solid waste, recycling, mail, and other services will continue as scheduled. Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access. Project hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Unforeseen circumstances and adverse weather can create delays that increase the project's duration and create opportunities for weekend and overnight work.
