Southeast Community and Government Center

Last updated on October 03, 2024

In response to the need for enhanced accessibility to safety, recreational, and informational services, the City of Orlando will build the Southeast Community and Government Center (Center). Designed as a community focal point, the Center will serve as a convenient drop-in location for citizens seeking a wide array of services and information pertinent to their well-being and engagement.

Encompassing approximately 15,000 square feet, the Center will be a versatile, multi-function facility tailored to meet the diverse needs of the community. Among its features, the center will boast public meeting rooms, addressing the demand for multi-generational classrooms and ample space for resident gatherings and discussions.

Moreover, the Center will play a pivotal role in supporting community safety initiatives. Serving as a regional police substation, it will facilitate enhanced coordination among the 17 police districts in the southeast Orlando area. Additionally, the substation will serve as a local field operations center during emergencies such as hurricanes or other natural or man-made disasters. The building will be fortified against both natural calamities and security threats, and it will be equipped with emergency power provisions to ensure the continued operation of essential services.

In times of crisis, the Center will serve as a vital distribution hub for various services and community-building activities. This includes but is not limited to the distribution of emergency food, water, or vaccines, catering to the needs of residents in the southeast area when they need it most.

Once the work begins, lane shifts, detours, road closures, sidewalk detours, sidewalk closures, or lane closures may be implemented as necessary. There is a potential for an increase in noise during project hours. The contractor will work with residents during this project to ensure access to homes and businesses. First responders and emergency vehicles will have access to the area should an emergency occur. Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will continue their normal schedule.
