Tent Permit Guide

Overview

A permit is required for any tents submitted by a tent company contractor. Tents that are less than 120 square feet, not submitted by a tent company, are not required to be permitted. (FBC 3103.1.2) 

Fireworks Sales Tent 

  • Site plan with dimensions and boundaries noting tent location and size and setbacks.
  • Certificate of flame resistance for tent material (NFPA 701 Certified).
  • Fire extinguisher locations.
  • Provide floor plan showing seating/furniture/structure/equipment/lighting layout.
  • Comply with Florida Fire Prevention Code, NFPA 101.11.11, NFPA 1124, and NFPA 1.65.
  • Requires Inspection by the Office of Emergency Management.

Tents 120-900 Square Feet

  • Site plan with dimensions and boundaries noting tent location and size and setbacks.
  • Certificate of flame resistance for tent material (NFPA 701 Certified).
  • Fire extinguisher locations.
  • Provide floor plan showing seating/furniture/structure/equipment/lighting layout.
  • A tent up to 900 square feet is exempt from the Florida Fire Prevention Code, including the national codes incorporated by reference unless used for fireworks.

Tents 900+ Square Feet

  • Life safety plan required for enclosed tents, noting occupant load, time of use and use of tent, signed and sealed by an architect.
  • Site plan with dimensions and boundaries noting tenet location and size and setbacks.
  • Certificate of flame resistance.
  • Seating/furniture/structure/equipment lighting layout.
  • Generator locations.
  • Allowable cooling and lighting systems included in supporting documentation (specifications).
  • Fire extinguisher locations.
  • Documentation is required to show Inclement weather Plan (FBC 107.2.1) Ref: Tents will require a notarized affidavit signed by the tent contractor stating that they will take down the tent in the path of any named storm.
