Apply for a Residential Roof Permit

Do you need to replace or repair the roof on your home?

You need to get a building permit to ensure the work is safe meets our city's standards.

Step 1.Gather your information

  • If you are doing the work yourself and not hiring a contractor, the State of Florida requires you to submit an Owner/Builder Declaration form with your building permit application. You must sign this form must in person, at our Permitting office. 
  • If the value of the work exceeds $5,000, a you need to file a recorded Notice of Commencement.

Step 2.Submit a residential re-roofing form

You will need to provide:

  • Estimated cost of your project
  • General information about your roof
  • Underlay and roof covering details
  • Additional details such as fastener types

Step 3.We will contact you

We will review your application and contact you within three business days with next steps.

Step 4.Make a payment

We will email you payment instructions once we approve your permit application. You can view any fees that are due and pay them using our Permit Lookup tool.

Step 5.Receive your permit

After you pay your fees, we will email you to let you know your permit is available for download. Login to ProjectDox and download your permit from the Approved folder.

Step 6.Schedule an inspection

As of Jan. 1, 2020, the city has reinstated the dry-in/in-progress inspection (inspection code 125) for all residential and commercial re-roof projects. The city also requires a completed inspection affidavit for the final inspection to verify the roof decking nail down and secondary water barrier installation.

Any re-roof permit issued on or after this date that did not receive a dry-in inspection, may receive disapproval at final inspection and may be subject to removing a portion of or all of the roof covering, to allow inspection of the underlayment and nailing of the sheathing.
