First Affordable Home Purchased through the City’s Construction of 10 Single-Family Homes in Parramore
WHAT:
For one local family, Christmas has come early. New homebuyer, Shaniqua Rose, had always dreamed of owning a home and being able to raise her four-year old son there. This Friday that dream of homeownership will become a reality as Shaniqua closes on the purchase of her family’s first home.
The home is one of a total of 10 single-family homes that the City of Orlando’s Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is building in the Parramore neighborhood.
Shaniqua was also able to qualify and receive financial assistance through the city’s Down Payment Assistance Program, helping make the home even more affordable.
On Friday, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 5 City Commissioner will present Shaniqua with the keys to her new home and a housewarming gift basket. Shaniqua and her family plan to start moving in this weekend, just in time to celebrate the holidays in their new home.

This project is part of the city’s overall efforts in revitalizing and investing in the Parramore neighborhood and ensuring access to quality, safe and affordable housing options for residents. Currently, the city has more than $12 million invested to bring new housing to Parramore, including partnerships that will add 500 new multifamily housing units and 57 new single-family homes.
