City of Orlando Puts More Officers out in the Community
Innovative New Staffing Structure Increases Police Patrols in Orlando Neighborhoods When Citizen Calls for Service Are Highest
ORLANDO, FL – April 23, 2019- Today, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, City Commissioners and Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolón announced the creative and innovative way that the department is restructuring the organization in an effort to bolster public safety and fight crime in the City of Orlando.
The Orlando Police Department has implemented a new organizational plan that is aimed at crime prevention and reduction, improving officer response time when citizens call for service and furthering collaboration within the department.
The new operational structure will add six new patrol squads the Orlando Police Department’s Patrol Operations Division, increasing the number of available officers when the department sees a surge in calls for service during the early afternoon and late evening hours.
“We must be ever evolving in our fight against crime, and that often means looking within, continually evaluating our own processes and procedures to ensure Orlando remains one of the safest cities in America,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “Public safety is a top priority and this new staffing plan will put even more of our officers on the street when our citizens need them most.”
The new organizational plan also consolidated the department’s specialized drug, tactical, neighborhood and gang units to operate under one division. This newly formed Special Enforcement Division, will work collaboratively using data and intelligence led policing to improve information sharing and further strengthen the department’s efforts to prevent and reduce crime.
“Our agency is constantly looking for ways to improve our service to our citizens,” said Chief Orlando Rolón. “This new operational plan allows our officers to be even more mission focused, putting them out into the community not just to prevent crime, but to continue to strengthen the relationship between our officers and our citizens.”
