City of Orlando and Valencia College Launch New Accelerated Skills Training Programs in Downtown Orlando
District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill and Valencia College announce first two training programs near new downtown campus.
What:
District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill will join Valencia College to provide members of the Parramore community with information about the first two new short-term job training programs that Valencia College will launch at its new Center for Accelerated Training which will open next month at 400 West Pittman Street, in the heart of the Creative Village.
The short-term training programs, which range between five and 22 weeks, are designed to provide short-term training to residents in preparation for long-term careers in high-demand, higher wage jobs. These programs also create a pipeline of skilled professionals to support Orlando’s expanding job market in some of the most in-demand industries like construction or advanced manufacturing.
The first two training programs, set to start August 19th, will offer skills training to help prepare residents for Electronic Board Assembly Technician and Distributions Operations Technician jobs. In the coming months, at the new facility, Valencia College will also offer job training programs for residents seeking a career as an Industrial Maintenance Technician or in carpentry.
At the community meeting Wednesday, residents will have the opportunity to meet directly with Valencia College staff who will provide an overview of the programs, how to enroll and how to apply for tuition assistance through CareerSource Central Florida.
Visuals will include equipment used in the program, such as circuit boards, soldering kits, safety equipment and robotics.
