City of Orlando Approves Recipients of Mayor's Matching Grants

January 17, 2020 - Orlando FL. –Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City Council have approved 22 organizations as recipients of City of Orlando’s Mayor’s Matching Grants. The group of nonprofit organizations and schools all play important roles in enhancing the quality of life for residents in Central Florida. 

Projects that were approved include those that focus on adding neighborhood safety features, enhancing the beauty of neighborhoods and work to provide mentoring and access to arts, education, career exploration and athletic programs for young residents. The recipient groups will receive a total of $142,500 in grant funding that will be invested back into the community. 

Introduced in 1994, the Mayor’s Matching Grant program approves grants twice per year, distributing around $200,000 annually, helping to fund projects that address neighborhood needs, improve education and build community pride.

Since the program’s inception, 844 neighborhood associations, nonprofit organizations and schools have received a total of $4.8 million. Notable projects include public art in Orlando Main Streets districts and the Thornton Park fountain.

Loving Assisting Nurturing Educating & Supporting Teenage Girls, Inc.

L.A.N.E.S. Teenage Girls, Inc.

L.A.N.E.S. (Loving Assisting Nurturing Educating & Supporting Teenage Girls, Inc.) will implement a program that provides a safe, adult-led environment for discussions about education, respect, discipline, self-control, self-esteem, leadership and good decision-making for 55 middle school girls at the Dr. James R. Smith Neighborhood Center.

Legends Academy

Garden Enrichment Program

The Garden Enrichment Program will provide hands on, interactive project based lessons designed to increase nutrition knowledge, promote positive attitudes toward healthy eating and improve individual self-confidence for 80 youth in second through fourth grade.  

Revelations II, Inc.

Leaders in Training

Leaders in Training is a year-round crime prevention program that provides youth ages five to 18 with healthy living initiatives and mentorship engagement. Grant funding will allow for over 120 youth from Washington Shores and Richmond Heights to participate in the weekly martial arts and mentorship program.
