City of Orlando Launches Expanded Public Participation Process for Next Virtual City Council Meeting

April 23, 2020 – Orlando, FL – The City of Orlando continues to take necessary precautions to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), while maintaining business to keep city projects, programs and services moving ahead. In keeping with this goal, the Orlando City Council will continue to hold its regular meetings virtually, including the upcoming meeting on Monday, April 27, at 2 p.m. 

As part of the city’s continued efforts to allow for social distancing among council members, staff and the public in accordance with policies from federal, state and county health officials, Orlando City Hall remains closed.  Since at this time there is no physical location to attend City Council meetings in person, the City of Orlando has launched an expanded public participation process that includes the option to provide public comment remotely during the Council meeting.

How to submit public comment or speak at City Council: 

To make a live public comment during the virtual meeting, citizens can do so through the virtual meeting link online at orlando.gov/Events/City-Council-Meeting.

Written public comments can be submitted online at orlando.gov/councilcomment; emailed to cityclerk@orlando.gov; mailed to City Clerk, Public Comment, 400 South Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801; or dropped off to the first floor security station at City Hall.   

Comments received by 2 p.m. on Monday, April 27 will be read into the record during the City Council meeting and become part of the permanent record of the meeting.

How to view the City Council Meeting:

The public and the media will be asked to watch the meeting online or on TV, as City Hall remains closed to the public at this time.

Meetings are available for viewing on Orange TV channel 488, at orlando.gov/watchonline or the city’s YouTube page (youtube.com/cityoforlando).

Mayor Dyer Media Availability 

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will be available to speak to the media about the new meeting format and other agenda items at 1 p.m. on the steps in front of City Hall. Media planning to attend is asked to RSVP by contacting Samantha Holsten, City of Orlando Public Information Officer, at 321-418-9361 (cell) or samantha.holsten@orlando.gov (email).
