Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council Help Feed Local Veterans

WHAT:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and out of an abundance of safety, the city’s annual Veterans Day parade was cancelled this year.

However, the City and the Mayor's volunteer member, Veterans Advisory Council, still felt it was crucial to honor and recognize Orlando’s veterans and active military and decided to focus on a service project as a way to not only recognize veterans during this difficult time, but also help provided needed support and supplies.

This Friday, Mayor Dyer will join with volunteers from the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council to partner with Soldiers’ Angels to feed 300 veteran families in need. Each veteran family will receive 75 pounds of groceries including non-perishable items, dairy, fresh meat and produce.

Additionally, the City is donating $4,000 that would have been used for the production of the parade, directly to Soldiers' Angels to help further their efforts in helping feed Orlando veterans this November. This contribution will ensure that each family receives a Thanksgiving turkey in addition to the 75 pounds of food.

Groceries will be distributed by appointment and through a contactless drive-thru.
