The City of Orlando Celebrates Black History Month

WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and City Commissioners invite the community to join them in celebrating the contributions and positive influence of African Americans in the Central Florida community at the city’s annual Black History Month reception. 

The free event will feature keynote speaker, Desmond Meade, President of Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), and the grand opening of the "Zuri" art exhibition by local visual artist Peterson Guerrier. This year’s theme, “2020- African Americans and The Vote” celebrates the struggles and accomplishments on the part of black men and women for their right to vote and explores the rise of black elected and appointed officials. 

The month of February is known nationally as Black History Month and is dedicated to honoring the achievements of African Americans and their lasting impact on the nation’s history. This event continues to support the City of Orlando’s commitment to inclusion, respect and diversity, and advocating for human rights and humanity for all.
