The City of Orlando Holds Modified Small Group Summer Camp Program

WHAT:
As businesses continue to reopen and parents go back to work, the City of Orlando has made adjustments to its regular summer camp to provide a modified small group summer camp program throughout 18 city facilities, allowing for safely supervised activities and education for children in elementary and middle school.

City staff have been extensively trained in the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Children and Families to operate during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Per these guidelines, the City is implementing the following health and safety protocols:

  • Children will be kept in the same small groups of 10 or less (nine children and one staff member) throughout the duration of summer camp, ensuring the same children are with the same instructor each day.

  • Each group will meet in a separate room and not interact with other groups.

  • Cleaning and disinfecting efforts will be intensified.

  • Drop off and pick up procedures will take place outside the facilities and will include screening questions and temperature checks per the Florida Department of Children and Families guidelines.

  • Only children and assigned staff will be allowed inside facilities after being screened and temperature checked.

The modified small group summer camp will reduce overall capacity, allowing the city to offer care to 720 children, a decrease from the expected 1705 children originally planned for during this summer.

COSTS:

  • $60 per week for city residents

  • $100 per week for non-city residents

  • $0 per week for city residents on verified public assistance

WHEN:

  • Registration begins Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. at Orlando.gov/summercamps.

  • Program takes place June 1, 2020 – August 7, 2020
