Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 2 Commissioner Tony Ortiz Unveil the New Roberto Clemente Road Street Sign Following Renaming Approval

WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join District 2 Commissioner Tony Ortiz, other City Commissioners, and community leaders to unveil the new Roberto Clemente Road street sign, following the Orlando City Council’s approval to change the street name from Stonewall Jackson Road. The renaming supports the City of Orlando’s continued efforts to make the city a more welcoming, inclusive place for all.

The change also aligns with Orange County Public Schools’ recent decision to rename the school on the street from Stonewall Jackson Middle School to Roberto Clemente Middle School. A native of Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente was a Hall of Fame baseball star and a humanitarian. He passed away in 1972 in a plane crash while bringing supplies to survivors of an earthquake in Nicaragua.

Roberto Clemente’s sons – Roberto Jr. and Luis - will join the community for the new street sign unveiling.

WHEN:
Wednesday, June 23, 2021
10:30 a.m.

WHERE:
Corner of Engel Drive and Roberto Clemente Road

MEDIA PARKING INSTRUCTIONS:
Media planning to attend the unveiling can park in the Roberto Clemente Middle School Parking lot, across the street from the Engel Drive intersection.
