Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to Participate in Obama Foundation’s Town Hall on Reimagining Policing
WHAT:
On Thursday, March 4, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join with other leaders across the country to participate in the Obama Foundation's Reimagining Police Town Hall series. Mayor Dyer will share with attendees actions that the City of Orlando has taken over the last several months to further the city’s commitment to ensure that all Orlando residents feel equally valued and protected and have equitable access to opportunities.
Following the killing of George Floyd, the City of Orlando was one of 300 municipalities that signed the Obama Foundation's Reimagining Policing Pledge and has taken steps to address use of force policies, create and expand programs and further engage residents in an effort to combat systemic racism.
The virtual town hall will highlight stories of steps taken and progress made nationally, including how the City of Orlando is increasing access to academic assistance, mentoring and support networks by expanding its Parramore Kidz Zone and My Brother's Keeper Orlando programs.
Mayor Dyer will be one of three municipal leaders on the town hall, joining Mayor Lucy Vinis of Eugene, Oregon, and Mayor Svante Myrick of Ithaca, New York. Sunny Hostin, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” will serve as the moderator.
