City of Orlando – Tropical Storm Nicole Update #6

November 10, 2022, ORLANDO, FL - The City of Orlando is issuing the following information to keep the community informed and updated on Tropical Storm Nicole recovery. 

At this time, the storm is still impacting the area and residents are encouraged to stay indoors until the storm has passed. 

The city has had emergency response crews out assessing damage and the current situation and is sharing the following information: 

 

WATER USAGE:  

As a result of the heavy rain brought by Tropical Storm Nicole, the City of Orlando requests that residents continue to limit water use as much as possible, including refraining from doing laundry, washing dishes, taking showers/baths and flushing toilets. Additional water usage like this will put more pressure on these systems and could lead to sewage overflows. 

LAKES AND FLOODING:  

Tropical Storm Nicole brought 4 ½ to 5 inches of rain to the city. At this time city crews are assessing areas previously impacted by high water levels following Hurricane Ian. As a precaution, please refrain from contact with standing water in the roadways.  

Yesterday, the city he City of Orlando issued a Lake Advisory for all lakes until further notice. Additionally, all boat ramps are closed. Please refrain from any recreational activity or contact with the lakes.  

POWER RESTORATION:  

OUC crews are in the process of restoring power to customers affected by the storm. Customers can report outages by calling 407-423-9018 or by texting “OUT” to 69682.  

DEBRIS & TRASH/RECYCLE PICKUP:  

Residential storm debris pickup service will resume tomorrow. Residents can help expedite the yard waste collection process by doing the following:  

  • Place debris at the curb, not in the street  

  • Bag and bundle yard waste  

  • Separate yard waste and building materials  

  • Yard waste should not be burned due to inherent dangers  

Residential trash and recycling collection will resume its normal schedule Friday, November 11. Residents who did not receive service this past Wednesday and Thursday due to the storm will be serviced next week on their regularly scheduled days.  

CITY SERVICES AND CITY HALL:  

City Hall and other facilities, including Neighborhood Centers and Recreation facilities, will reopen Friday, November 11, for normal business hours. City services will also resume normal operations on Friday.  

CITY PARKING GARAGES:  

All cars parked in city garages for the storm should be removed by 12 p.m. Friday, November 11.  

CITIZEN INFORMATION LINE:  

The Citizen Information Line – 407-246- HELP (4357) - remains open and operational. Residents are encouraged to call this line to report damage, downed trees, traffic lights that are out and to get information from the city on response efforts.  

VETERANS DAY PARADE:  

At this time, the City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade is proceeding as planned. We will continue to monitor recovering efforts from the storm closely. The safety of residents and parade participants are our top priority.
