Community Response Team Pilot Update
Alternative response pilot provides unique first responder services to those experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis
WHAT:
On Monday, April 4, 2022, the Orlando City Council will hear a workshop presented by the Orlando Police Department on updates and potential future plans for the Community Response Team (CRT) pilot which has been in operation just over a year.
The current CRT pilot, a partnership with Aspire Health Partners, was launched in March 2021 as part of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Community Trust & Equity initiative to ensure that every person in Orlando is equally valued and protected. The CRT pilot operates with trained mental and behavioral health professionals responding to specific non-violent calls for service, to focus on de-escalating and connecting those in need to treatment and services – in lieu of police officers.
In the first year of the program, these teams of trained mental and behavioral health professionals have responded to 956 citizens and connected more than half of those individuals to local mental health care and community-based resources.
