Hurricane Ian Update #7

October 1, 2022 – ORLANDO, FL – The City of Orlando is issuing the following information to keep the community informed and updated on Hurricane Ian recovery -   FLOODING & POWER RESTORATION:  OUC has reported a little over 7,000 customers without power, many of those customers can expect power to be restored in the next day or so, with the exception of those in homes and businesses still experiencing standing water.      As the water recedes, city inspection crews will assess the impacted areas and conduct necessary inspections, in partnership with OUC, to restore power safely. If your home or business has been impacted, you can visit orlando.gov/ianassistance for more information and to request an appointment for an inspection.     RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS:  Homeowners and renters in the City of Orlando who were affected by Hurricane Ian may apply for FEMA disaster assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time, or by using the FEMA mobile app.  Residents may be eligible to receive assistance for uninsured and underinsured damage and losses resulting from the storm.    Residents needing tarps to cover roof damage are encouraged to request fiber-reinforced sheeting for their home from the federal government through the Operation Blue Roof program by visiting https://www.usace.army.mil/Missions/Emergency-Operations/Blue-Roof-Information/    RESOURCES FOR BUSINESSES:  The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) activated the Business Damage Assessment Survey in response to Hurricane Ian. Survey responses will allow the state of Florida to expedite Hurricane Ian recovery efforts by gathering data and assessing the needs of affected businesses. Businesses impacted by Hurricane Ian to complete the Business Damage Assessment Survey at www.FloridaDisaster.biz.    Small Business Administration has opened their Business Physical Disaster Loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans to Florida counties impacted by Hurricane Ian: https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/disaster-assistance/hurricane-ian#section-header-2    DEBRIS & TRASH PICKUP:  Residential storm debris pick up is underway. As residents are clearing debris it is important to bag and bundle debris and take steps to prevent it from entering the storm drains. Leaves and storm debris in the stormwater drains will slow down water drainage and prolong recovery time.     Residents can help expedite the yard waste collection process by doing the following: 

  • Place debris at the curb, not in the street 
  • Bag and bundle yard waste 
  • Separate yard waste and building materials  
  • Yard waste should not be burned due to inherent dangers 

Residential trash and recycling collection will resume its normal schedule Monday, October 3, 2022. Residents who did not receive service this past Wednesday – Friday due to the storm will be serviced next week on their regularly scheduled days.    SEWAGE SYSTEM IMPACTS:  Residents and businesses should continue to limit water usage in their homes as much as possible, including refraining from doing laundry, washing dishes, taking showers/baths and flushing toilets. Additional water usage like this will put more pressure on systems already over capacity and lead to sewage overflows.    TRAFFIC LIGHTS:  At this time, there are 10 signals in the city not in operation. Seven are flashing & three are without power. The remaining signals not in operation are in areas heavily impacted by flooding.     PARKS:  Parks and all boat ramps remain closed until they can be fully assessed. Parks will be opened as they are deemed safe to use. Other parks clear of water and debris can be used unless signs indicate a closure.    Lake Eola Park is still experiencing high water levels but the walkway surrounding the lake is cleared and the playground and restrooms are open on the west side of the park.    Lake Druid Park bike path (woods course portion) is closed until further notice.     There will be no Farmers Market at Lake Eola Park on Sunday, October 2, 2022.    NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS:  The following Neighborhood Centers and Recreation facilities reopened today, Saturday, October 1: 

  • Beardall 
  • College Park 
  • Jackson Center 
  • Orlando Tennis Center 
  • Dover Shores 
  • Engelwood 
  • Orlando Skate Park 
  • Northwest 
  • Rosemont 
  • Smith Center 

Delaney Park and L. Claudia Allen, Hankins Park, Lake Fairview Park and Grand Ave Neighborhood Center remain closed.  The following Neighborhood Centers and Recreation facilities will resume normal operations on Monday, October 3: 

  • Rock Lake 
  • Ivey Lane  
  • Colonialtown 
  • Reeves Terrace  
  • Citrus Square 
  • Wadeview 

Other centers will be opened as they are deemed to be safe for operation.    CITY SERVICES AND CITY HALL:City Hall and other facilities will reopen Monday October 3, 2022, for normal business hours. City services will also resume normal operations on Monday.    CITIZEN INFORMATION LINE:The Citizen Information Line – 407-246- HELP (4357) - remains open and operational.  Residents are encouraged to call this line to report damage, downed trees, traffic lights that are out and to get information from the city on response efforts.
