New Downtown Plan Charts Actionable Efforts that will Transform Downtown to Ensure a Thriving City Center

WHAT:
On Monday, September 26, 2022, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Orlando City Council will hear a workshop presented by the City of Orlando’s Downtown Development Board/Community Redevelopment Agency and project consultants that will provide an update on their current work on the Downtown Action Plan.

For decades Downtown has been a destination for business and entertainment. This Action Plan will take downtown from what it is today, to a downtown for the future and a downtown that serves as a true neighborhood.

The plan builds on the city’s vision for Downtown, created through the Project DTO in 2015, and charts a roadmap for the next evolution of downtown. With implementable strategies and concepts, the plan’s focus is on what driving actionable changes to streets, civic spaces, mobility options and neighborhoods can best catalyze and ensure Downtown Orlando is a vibrant, economically-viable and thriving city for everyone, now and into the future.

The Downtown Action Plan effort started in early 2022 and Monday’s presentation will give an update on efforts to date and future plans for implementation. Also starting Monday, visit projectdto.com for more information on the Action Plan and ways to engage in the process.

DOWNTOWN VISION BACKGROUND
Project DTO was a comprehensive visioning process launched in 2014 by the Community Redevelopment Agency focused on advancing downtown Orlando. It resulted in the creation of two vital plans: the DTO Vision Plan and DTOutlook, the updated downtown Orlando Community Redevelopment Area Plan. Together, these plans chart the vision for downtown Orlando’s future and identify fundamental big ideas expressed by the community.

Recommendations from Project DTO span a wide array of ideas and initiatives that include: improving bicycle and pedestrian amenities, increasing parks and open space, recruiting major corporate anchors and high-wage jobs, expanding neighborhood associations and housing options, and encouraging architecture that creates a signature skyline in downtown.
