Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer Appoints New Public Works Director for the City of Orlando
June 22, 2022 – ORLANDO, FL – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has appointed Corey F. Knight as the Public Works Director for the City of Orlando.
“With nearly two decades of experience in public works, including serving as our Capital Improvements Division Manager, Corey is well qualified to lead the department,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “Having managed many city projects in every division of Public Works, I’m confident Corey’s knowledge and expertise will ensure we continue to deliver critical city services to meet the needs of our residents and businesses. I look forward to working with him in his new role with the city.”
In 2018, Knight started his career with the City of Orlando as a Project Manager in the Public Works Department, and has demonstrated his management, leadership, and organizational skills in delivering some of the city’s most critical projects, including the Packing District, Grand Avenue Neighborhood Center, Narcoossee Road Widening, Luminary Green Park, Anderson Street Urban Trail Extension and Fire Station #11.
Most recently Knight served as Project Management Division Manager and oversaw the implementation of E-Builder, the new Project Management Information System, which will revolutionize the way the department manages critical infrastructure projects, bringing more efficiency and cost savings to the city.
“The City's Public Works Department's core focus is sustainable growth for urban development and improving the services we provide for our residents, businesses, and visitors,” said Knight. “I look forward to constructing new and innovative infrastructure and partnering with our constituents and business community to ensure strategic investment and development within the city.”
Knight brings a diverse background in federal, state, municipal, and private development as well as non-profit management and ownership. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida, a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Model Law Engineer and before joining the city, Knight served in several engineering roles, including the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization and with Talbert and Bright, Inc. and Sherlock, Smith and Adams. Leveraging this experience, Knight has also served in leadership positions on the local, state, and national levels of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is a member of the Design Build Institute of American, and the American Public Works Association.
The appointment will go to City Council for approval on Monday, July 18, 2022 and go into effect on Monday, July 25, 2022.
