Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, City Commissioners and the Community to Honor Veterans at the 24th Annual Veterans Day Parade

WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and his Veterans Advisory Council will join with City Commissioners, other local elected officials and the community to honor the courageous men and women of the armed forces at the 24th annual City of Orlando Veterans Day Parade Saturday, November 11, 2023, in downtown Orlando.

This year’s parade theme will recognize the significant role military families play supporting soldiers who transition back into civilian life. The parade’s opening ceremony pays tribute to those who have fought for the country and defended freedom. Returning this year, there will be a post parade celebration at the Lake Eola Park Amphitheater with music, food and family friendly games from 1-3 p.m.

WHO:
The parade will consist of a variety of participants including several Central Florida veteran organizations, active-duty military, Bishop Moore High School Band, local dance groups and JROTCs from the following High Schools: Lake Buena Vista, Dr. Phillips, Ocoee, Evans, Oak Ridge, Colonial, East River and Boone High.

Grand Marshals of the parade, include:

  • SGT Tyechia Carroll Brown; SGT Brown has served for more than a decade in the U.S. Army in various roles, including the Military Police, Human Resources Specialist, Active Duty, National Guard and Administrative Specialist.
  • 1st Lieutenant Michael Hensley and Specialist Shirley Hensley; Both 1st Lt. Hensley and SPC Hensley served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and met in 1970 at the 91st evacuation hospital in Chu Lai, Vietnam while Shirley was working as a nurse and Michael as a paramedic.
  • Colonel Verner M. Kiernan; Col. Kiernan graduated from West Point and served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. In 2003, he served during Operation Iraqi Freedom and is a proud father of five.

**10:30 - 10:45 a.m. - Mayor media window

10:45 a.m. - Opening Ceremony
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.- Parade
1- 3 p.m. - Post-parade celebration at Lake Eola Park

WHERE:
The opening ceremony will take place on Orange Avenue near Central Boulevard. The parade will begin at the corner of Robinson Street and Orange Avenue, traveling down Orange Avenue, turning left on Central Boulevard, left on Rosalind Avenue and ending at Robinson Street.

**Media staging area will be at the corner of Orange Avenue and Central Boulevard.

ATTENDEE PARKING AND TRAVEL INFORMATION:
Parade spectators should utilize the Central Garage (55 West Central Boulevard) and the Library Garage (112 East Central Boulevard via Pine Street) for parking.

Road closures associated with parade staging will run from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Orange Avenue, Amelia Street, West Concord Street, Livingston Street and Robinson Street.

Closures along the parade route will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Central Boulevard and Rosalind Avenue.
