WHAT:
Grab your lawn chair, blankets and a lunch for picnics and performances as one of Orlando’s most anticipated signature parks is ready for residents to enjoy. On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 3 City Commissioner Robert F. Stuart will join Dr. Phillips Charities to cut the ribbon on the City’s newest park, The Grove, and open the new Orlando Tennis Centre, both located in the Packing District.

The Grove Park, whose name is a nod to the history of the area which used to serve as a citrus packing house, has transformed 66-acres into Orlando's newest signature park. The park features a1.5-mile biking, walking and jogging trail; dedicated open green space; a regional stormwater pond and preserved wetlands accessible by a 1-mile path and boardwalk. A key feature of the park is a covered outdoor pavilion with space for concerts and performances.

Adjacent to the park is also the home of the new Orlando Tennis Centre. The new state-of-the-art center features 17 lighted courts - 11 clay and six hard - with four that can adapt for pickleball. The facility also houses a half-court practice wall and a 4,000-square-foot welcome center with a clubhouse, lockers, showers, restrooms, meeting space and a pro shop.

In addition to the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, District 3 City Commissioner Robert F. Stuart and District 5City Commissioner Regina I. Hill are hosting a Community Open House on Saturday, June 3, 2023.Residents are encouraged to attend the event which will feature tours and activities for the family, such as lawn games, bounce houses, music, food and more. The community event will not only showcase new public amenities, but also the park’s important role is connecting residents in the Rosemont, College Park, Mercy Drive and Spring Lake neighborhoods.

The new park is possible thanks to land donated by Dr. Phillips Charities to the City as part of their development of The Packing District. The redevelopment of the Packing District is transforming this once industrial area into a vibrant district with a mix of housing options, commercial districts and abundance of green space and serves as a critical connector between several neighborhoods in the city.
