WHAT:
In an effort to keep waste out of landfills, today the City of Orlando set up eight collection sites for elections yard signs to be recycled, with additional sites added for the general election. The metal frames will be recycled locally, and the plastic corflute signs will be transported to NuCycle Energy in Plant City where they will be transformed into NuCycle's Enviro Fuelcubes. The Enviro Fuelcubes, currently being manufactured by NuCycle, are used to generate electricity, replacing coal as a much cleaner energy source. Each location will have marked blue bins or crates for easy drop-off of signs and stands. During this year’s primary election, more than14,000 single-use election signs were diverted from the landfill.
