WHAT:
On Thursday, August 15, 2024, downtown Orlando will come alive with a unique art installation as part of DTOLive. The City of Orlando’s Downtown Development Board (DDB), in collaboration with United Arts of Central Florida and Creative City Project, will install thisnew art exhibit featuring 16-foot-tall colorful, inflatable pigeons. This installation is designed to enhance urban vibrancy, help supportlocal businesses, and welcome greater community engagement. It also invites viewers to reconsider the resilience and adaptability of urban wildlife, fostering a deeper connection with our city’s environment. The giant, neon pigeons will be displayed through October 17, 2024.

Through the vision of local artist Brendan O’Connor, “Big City Birds” is the second installment of Creative City Project’s collaboration with DTOLive. Launched by the DDB and United Arts of Central Florida, DTOLive is an ambitious arts initiative bringing more than 800 events annually to 11 public spaces in downtown Orlando. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s cultural landscape and provide exceptional arts experiences seven days a week.

The DDB recognizes the invaluable role of the arts in enriching downtown Orlando’s cultural landscape. In support of this, the Board has provided funding to United Arts of Central Florida for the development and execution of the DTOLive program. Running through June 2025, this initiative encompasses a wide range of performances and installations throughout the city. United Arts of Central Florida is responsible for managing these events, including artist compensation, to ensure high-quality and impactful artistic experiences for the community.
