The purpose of this program is to limit the oil and grease in the over 800 miles of public sanitary sewer lines. Pouring grease and oil down the drain can cause build up in your own sewer lines as well as the city sewer. Blockages, if left untreated, will cause a sanitary sewer overflow to occur. Sanitary sewer overflows are one of the remaining point sources of pollution left in the U.S.
There are two programs in the City to help reduce these sanitary sewer programs. The used cooking oil recycling program provides residents a chance to recycle used cooking oil instead of pouring it down the drain. The Grease Fighter wants you to know that recycling your cooking oil helps prevent blockages in your sewer and also keeps Orlando beautiful. You can be a Hero today by recycling your cooking oil.

The Oil and Grease Management Program is for businesses operating within the city. The goal of the program is to reduce the amount of fats, oil and grease (FOG) entering the sewer collection system. If you are a business operating in Orlando that produces FOG waste into the sewer, then you should register for the program.
Food Service Establishments (FSE) typically produce significant fats, oil and grease into the sewer. This takes place through normal food processing/ware washing, and the facility should have a grease trap in place to capture these materials. Food Service Establishments should register for the program with the Grease Management Program Certificate.
Facilities that introduce petroleum based oils into the sewer should also register for the program. These are often facilities such as car washes, mechanic shops and wash down areas.
Help the Grease Fighter Prevent Sewer Spills
DON’T flush food scraps, or cooking oil down the sink with hot water or soap. Instead pour leftover grease and oil into a separate container and recycle it at your local City of Orlando center.
DO help the Grease Fighter prevent sewer overflows by putting food scraps and flushables in the trash and remember to keep the peace by recycling your grease. There are many drop off locations throughout Orlando.
TEACH your children on the do’s and don'ts for your household, joining the Grease Fighter in fighting the war on preventing sewer overflows.
