Fifth Place Tie: Butterfly by Avery Brooks

I hatch, I grow,

     I eat you know.

I eat some more,

     from leaf to core.

Soon I’m ready to “chrysalize”,

     and frolic with my friends the butterflies!

I’m ready to hatch,

     out of what’s attached.

I am flying with my friend,

     ready to start life all over again!

Avery was born here in Orlando eight years ago. She enjoys reading and writing, teaching her little sister, practicing Capoeira and playing piano. Avery is a beautiful, brilliant and kind human being who cares about the planet and those who live on it.
