Fourth Place: Our Winter Weather by Bill Stevens

Bill Stevens

This is the time of the year when the sun hangs low in the sky like a bird flying just above the tree tops.

There is a nip in the air, but people here still dress like we live way up north. We pile on the boots and scarves and even don our mittens.

The days are short and the nights are long, and most of us can’t wait for this “snap” to be gone.

We hate the frost and hurry to wash it away once we get one, but the new days sunshine is oh so welcoming.

It may not be harsh and it may be short, but our winter takes the blue ribbon when compared to most of the other states.

So fly, little bird, fly -- for as you can see our spring is just around the corner as the days get longer and weather starts to get warmer.

Susan’s Thoughts

It's hard not to gloat about the glorious winter days and nights we enjoy in Florida, so this cheerful poem does the bragging for us!
