Omari Jones - Edgewater High School

Omari Jones

Omari works hard and is extremely respectful, but more importantly, his impact amongst his peers and his community is where he stands apart from any other student. Omari has been a leader in Lambda Gamma Young Men’s Club for over 6 years. During his time in the program, he has been elected by his peers to serve as Community Service Chair, Vice President and President.

While attending Edgewater, he has organized programs that fed over 500 homeless people as well as actively tutoring and mentoring elementary age students in underserved schools. Furthermore, Omari is a nationally ranked boxer, including #1 in the State and Region. Last year he was a Junior Olympic Silver Medalist. These things mentioned and many not mentioned serve as a true testament to his dedication, hard work and perseverance to all things that he involves himself with.

Omari’s commitment to improving himself and his community is inspired by the amazing legacy that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. left for us all. Omari’s favorite MLK quote is from the iconic  “I Have a Dream Speech”.  This quote stood out to him because it shows that Dr. King was a leader and he wanted change for the better of the world.

Future Plans: Omari plans to attend the University of Central Florida and pursue a degree in Business Administration.

Favorite MLK quote: “… one day…. little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with white boys and girls as sisters and brothers."
