Trevor "TJ" Owens, Jr. - Winter Park High School

From an early age Trevor has been involved in helping to make his community a better place for everyone to live.  He learned that a simple gesture of kindness could help to make a difference in a person’s life.  Trevor has a giving heart and like Dr. King volunteers without an expectation of rewards, recognition and no gain except to see positive change in his community.   He has volunteered with his family at the Salvation Army and collected and distributed blankets at the Orlando Rescue Mission.  He has served in food drive projects, including harvesting fresh vegetables for seniors. He has volunteered to assist his peers by mentoring those who were homeless and tutoring children who were failing in school. He is a musician and plays the piano.  He has received awards from Bethel Baptist Association and OCPS for essay writing and oratory.

Favorite MLK quote: “I have a dream; we are faced with the fact that tomorrow is today.  We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.  In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late.  This is not time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.”

Future Plans:  Trevor has accepted the full scholarship opportunity from Tennessee State University and the National Basketball Retired Players Association.
