Gavin Mills- Olympia High School
Gavin Mills embodies the spirit of service and leadership through his passion for helping others and his commitment to making a positive impact among his school mates, family, and local area residents. Gavin follows Dr. King’s legacy by embracing the concepts of unity and equality, by using his voice to inspire people to chase their dreams, and by helping them to believe that they can achieve the impossible. When Gavin accomplishes this, it makes him know that what he’s doing is for an important purpose and a very good reason. Being a leader on his cross country and track team allows Gavin another chance to become an active part of his teammate’s lives in a positive and trusting way, which gives them encouragement and hope. Recently, Gavin modeled volunteering prowess by helping his grandmother at her daycare and by teaching the daycare students their foundation basics. Gavin gained much popularity and respect from his peers by his selection to be a part of the Homecoming Court in both his freshman and senior years. Furthermore, Gavin’s accomplishments included receiving the Outstanding Distance Runner Award, a Take Stock in Children scholarship, and induction into the National Honor Society.
