Genesis Neil- Wekiva High School
Genesis Neil exhibits all the qualities that Dr. King stood for and more. Her teachers feel that way about Genesis because they say she is self-less, a born leader, very kind and is always looking out for others. Genesis makes a strong case for being a people person, particularly when she emphasizes the importance of actively listening and respecting the perspectives of others. For example, whenever Genesis has a student council meeting and they have discussions where they disagree about how to proceed doing something, Genesis would insist that they listen and respect each others ideas, even if they didn’t necessarily agree. Genesis also strongly theorizes that it is essential for us to do whatever we can to make sure our community is safe and everyone is taken care of. When Genesis accomplishes that goal, it gives her a sense of purpose and that she is making a positive change. Genesis goes on to say that she is a consistent volunteer at Josie’s House of Help, which is an organization that provides care and resources to people of all ages, that she visits nursing homes and does activities with the elderly, makes Thanksgiving donations, volunteers at LANES - a mentoring organization for African American girls, and volunteers at Food for the Hungry. Her activities also include her involvement in the school’s Senior Class Council, the girls flag football team, and the dance team.
