Josbel Reyes Camacho- Lake Nona High School
Josbel Reyes Camacho exemplifies Dr. King’s legacy of equality, respect, and inclusion through active engagement in his community. With over 300 community service hours, he has dedicated time to teaching English and music to young people, organizing “academic shows” to encourage participation in study groups, and volunteering at the Orange County Library to assist staff and help improve services. His passion for music allowed him the opportunity to help others discover their talents, which also supported inclusion efforts and encouraged confidence in his peers. Josbel highlights his commitment to civic engagement and leadership through involvement in the Close Up Rally to Tally, where he works with other students to propose solutions for Florida’s communities. Additionally, Josbel helped so many other students new to the country face the same challenges he faced while adapting to a new educational system. Instead of getting discouraged, Josbel took initiative, asked questions, and sought out opportunities to learn and adjust. This proactive approach to overcoming obstacles shows both intelligence and strong character—values he most admires in Dr. King.
