WORKSHOP

Downtown South Neighborhood Improvement District

In 2011, the city created the Downtown South Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) to bring together property owners and an advisory council to create a unified voice for the area and to identify, support and fund general improvements within the Downtown South district, now known most commonly as SoDo.

At the time, we knew the area would be experiencing continued growth with expansion of Orlando Health, as the site of a future SunRail stop and with the growing popularity of our Main Street program.

Over the years, the NID’s advisory council and its partners have accomplished many things to bolster the reputation of this consistently popular neighborhood, to create a unique sense of place, to make the district more walkable and bikeable, to enhance the quality of life for those who live in and visit the area – and there is much more on the horizon.

Brooke Bonnett, City of Orlando Director of Economic Development. provided an update on the NID.
