City Council Update 12.11.23

GENERAL ITEMS

Holiday Happenings

This is our last City Council meeting of the year, which means the holidays are here. We want to wish everyone in our community who is celebrating, a Happy Hanukkah. And wish every Orlando resident a joyous holiday season.

And back by popular demand, the holiday drone show returns to Lake Eola Park on Saturday, December 23 at 8 p.m. This show will feature 500 synchronized drones flying above Lake Eola to create holiday designs in the sky. Afterwards, be sure the check out the final evening for the holiday happenings around the park, including the Merry Market, train rides, Santa and more. These free, family friendly holiday activities further support the city’s efforts to increase amenities in downtown Orlando and help support our local economy.

ITEMS OF NOTE

A#4 - Mayor’s Matching Grant Awards

On today's agenda we look to approve funding for 12 Mayor’s Matching Grant projects. These grants support local schools and non-profits that help enhance our community’s quality of life and out-of-school enrichment opportunities for our youth.

We have representatives from many of these organizations here today and watching our live broadcast.

B#1 – Vision Zero Safe Streets Plan

Also on the agenda, as part of the Safe Streets Project, we will look to approve the consultant who will create a plan to implement safety improvements in six Vision Zero corridors across the city, such as sidewalk upgrades, new bike paths and adding more crosswalks and further our goal to eliminate traffic-related injuries.
