Council Update - April 12, 2021

General Items

COVID-19 Update

It’s now been one week since eligibility expanded and all residents 16 and up have had access to the COVID-19 vaccine. If you’ve gotten the vaccine, or are planning to, thank you.

Thank you for taking action to protect yourself and others. We hope that those who’ve gotten the vaccine will become advocates, encouraging family and friends to get it as well. Sharing why you received it, and that the vaccine is safe and effective, will help others understand just how critical it is for as many of our community's residents as possible to get vaccinated.

Ramadan
We also wanted to highlight that tonight at sunset the holy month of Ramadan will begin for our Muslim community. It is a time for prayer, reflection and for families to come together and celebrate. Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim community.

Items of Note

C#7 - Future-Ready Challenge Funding Agreement Rally Central Florida Social Enterprise Accelerator

Switching over to items of note, on today’s agenda is a partnership with the Central Florida Foundation, Inc. that will expand the summer 2021 Rally Social Enterprise Accelerator program in order to help address local challenges in the city as part of our Future-Ready efforts.

Examples of those challenges, we identified through developing the Future-Ready Master Plan with our community, include, making housing more affordable, increasing recycling, improving home indoor air quality in underserved communities, improving the experience aboard mass transit and bridging the digital divide.

This partnership with Rally will allow us to issue two challenges to address some of these local issues. During the course of the partnership, Rally will help incubate social entrepreneurs in the program to help build their business, create jobs and develop solutions to the challenges identified by the city.

If successful, the city will evaluate how we can potentially replicate this targeted approach to investing in our entrepreneur community in the future.

C#8 & CRA #4 - AssuredPartners- STRIVE Program Agreement and High Wage High Value Funding Agreement

Also, today we will look to approve a STRIVE agreement and CRA High Wage High Value Funding Agreement with AssuredPartners, Inc., making AssuredPartners Inc. the second recipient of the new STRIVE incentive program. AssuredPartners is proposing to relocate its global headquarters to downtown Orlando and plans to create 200 new high-value jobs over five years with an average annual wage of more than $98,000.
