General Items
Come Out with Pride and Hispanic Heritage
Our community’s vibrancy and commitment to inclusion is on display year round, but it’s especially being showcased this month. This past weekend downtown Orlando came alive during the Come Out With Pride festival, a beautiful celebration of love and equality for our LGBTQ plus community.
And tomorrow we’re hosting our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at the Amway Center. We're so glad that so many in our community have gotten the vaccine, and we’re now able to gather again in person for events like this. We want to invite everyone to enjoy the celebrations starting at 5 p.m. Hope to see everyone there at this free community event.
Weekend Watch
Speaking of events coming back, this weekend, downtown Orlando will host several exciting events including IMMERSE, Synapse, Viva Orlando, and iHeartRadio’s Fiesta Latina. One of the highest priorities of our shared vision for downtown Orlando is the desire to create unique experiences and you will be able to enjoy several this weekend with the array of event offerings. Be sure to visit orlando.gov/weekendwatch for information on parking, road closures and event details.
Items of Note
Mayor #3 & #4 – Community Service Grants and Arts/Cultural Funding
Moving on to items of note, on today's agenda, we will vote on $1.2 million in grant awards to three nonprofit community service organizations and two arts and cultural organizations.
These grants support arts and cultural experiences through United Arts of Central Florida and the Orlando Science Center, coordinate homeless services through the Homeless Services Network and Central Florida Commission on Homelessness and provide spay/neuter and veterinary services for low-income residents through Pet Alliance.
We are proud to partner with these organizations and invest in efforts that improve the quality of life for our residents in Orlando.
Mayor # 1 - Poet Laureate
Also, on today’s agenda we will vote on the appointment of the next City of Orlando Poet Laureate, who was selected after a search process across Central Florida.
