Historic Preservation Board
The Historic Preservation Board (HPB) reviews all changes to structures within Historic Districts. The HPB holds monthly public hearings and issues Certificates of Appropriateness. The City has also designated certain buildings and signs as Historic Landmarks, alterations to which are subject to similar review.
Orlando has six Historic Preservation overlay districts with a variety of architectural styles. To establish these districts the board uses the following criteria:
- Citizen involvement
- Evaluation of the architectural significance of area buildings
- Consideration of the neighborhood’s contributions to Orlando’s cultural heritage
