Terminate a Domestic Partnership

Do you want to end your domestic partnership?

Registered couples need to notify the city if they want to end their domestic partnership.

As per Section 57.82 of City Code, registered domestic partnerships are automatically terminated if:

  • One (or both) of the domestic partners marries in Florida.
  • One of the domestic partners dies (provided however, the provisions relating to funeral and burial decisions survive.)
  • One of the domestic partners registers with another partner.

The marrying, surviving or re-registering domestic partner(s) must file a termination affidavit within 10 days of one of the events listed above.

By Mail

Mail your notarized Termination Affidavit, address of partner and $10 recording fee to:

Step 3.Get a copy of your affidavit 

We will give each partner a copy of the completed Termination of Domestic Partnership Affidavit.

If you would like a copy of the recorded affidavit, go to the Orange County Comptroller website and select "Official Records Search." 

Below the search button, uncheck the box to search specific document types and select “Affidavit.” Type your name in the “Grantor” box and click on the search button.

Your affidavit will show up as a PDF document.

In-Person

Step 1. Gather your materials

You will need to provide:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license, passport, state ID card, etc.)
  • The $10 recording fee (cash, money order, check, debit or credit card)

Step 2.Visit City Hall to sign and submit an affidavit

Either partner may terminate a registered domestic partnership. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Friday  at:

While you are at City Hall, you will:
