Youth/Teen Activities

Junior Counselor: (ages 14-15) This year-round volunteer program offers teens the opportunity to learn job skills by assisting recreation staff during programs and events.

Young Blacks In Action (Y.B.A.): (ages 4-21) Community band and dance troupe. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6 – 7:30 p.m. Cost: free.

Smith Center Basketball Academy (S.C.B.A.): (ages 5-7) Developmental and instructional league that teaches the fundamentals and fun of basketball. Registration takes place in December. Season runs from December to February. Cost: $40 per player.

Fall Basketball League: (grades 9-12th) Competitive high school league established to prepare schools for basketball season. Registration takes place in October. Season runs from October-November. Cost: $300 per team.

LANES: (ages 11-14) A mentorship program that will target middle school age girls providing a loving and nurturing educational program focusing on character development, job skills and life skills. Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m.  Cost: Free

Tae Kwan Do: (ages 5-10) Offered on Mondays and Thursdays, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Cost: $10 per week or $40 a month.

Hip Hop Fitness and Chair with Shamu: (ages 18 and over) Hit the gym and the dance floor with this FREE full body cardio dance class. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Boot Camp with Shamu: This senior fitness boot camp class is designed to keep you on your toes and always leave you guessing, by increasing stamina, strength, mobility, and overall wellbeing. Mondays-Thursdays and Saturdays 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.

Nighttime Fitness with Shamu: Move to the beat of your own speed. This invigorating, community-oriented dance fitness class provides modified, low-impact moves and easy to follow pacing for older adults who love a healthy, active lifestyle. Monday - Thursday, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Fun Tuesday: Looking for a welcoming space to make new friends and be a part of an awesome community? Fun Tuesday is the place to be. We offer life skills, financial skills, employability skills, social justice workshops, games and more. Every Tuesday 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
