Step 1.Check the tree's location

The city will trim or remove trees that are within city limits and are a risk to the roadway or sidewalk. Some trees are handled differently, including:

Step 2.Report the tree to the city

We can trim or remove trees in the public right-of-way, including:

  • Low-hanging or broken branches over roads or sidewalks.
  • Trees that appear dead or diseased in the public right-of-way.
  • Branches blocking streetlights.

Some limitations of what we can trim or cut include:

  • Crape myrtles: We will trim crape myrtles to remove hazards, but we will not trim them just to alter their appearance. This helps our trees live longer and stay naturally beautiful.
  • Trees over private property: We can trim branches from city trees that extend over private property, as long as they are accessible from the street. However, we're not able to trim branches over houses or structures.

Step 3.We will inspect the tree

We will inspect the tree if it’s in the public right-of-way to determine if it needs trimming or removal.

Step 4.We will trim or remove the tree, if eligible

If the tree qualifies for trimming or removal, we will handle it and let you know the estimated timeframe for the work. If we are unable to address the tree, we will let you know the reason and any next steps.
