Community Service Officers perform paraprofessional work involving the performance of non-emergency law enforcement duties, including responding to non-violent criminal incidents, accidents, and police service calls, and preparation of related reports.

Step 1.Check Your Eligibility

Do you have what it takes to become an Orlando Community Service Officer? Here are the basic requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be at least 19 years old.
  • Must have a high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for at least one year prior to the date application and continuing date of employment.
  • Must live within a 35 miles radius of the intersection of Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue.
  • Must be in good physical condition and of good moral character.
  • Must pass assessment tests, medical and psychological examinations and a thorough background check which involves two polygraph examinations.
  • Must have no felony convictions or misdemeanors (within five years of the date of application) involving moral character, perjury, or false statements.
  • Must meet restrictive drug standard.

Step 3.Take Your eSkills Standard English Language Exam

When your full application is approved, we will contact you to schedule your eSkills Standard Language Exam.

  • The eSkills Standard English Language Exam is designed to assess various aspects of a candidates English proficiency which includes spelling, grammar, comprehension, and writing.

Step 4.Attend an interview with the recruiting staff

When you pass the eSkills Standard English Language Exam, you will complete paperwork and a panel interview with our staff.

Step 5.Take polygraphs

After successful completion of the first polygraph examination, a background check will be completed. A conditional offer will be extended before the second polygraph examination.

Step 6.Final requirements

Successful candidates will move on to final requirements:

  • Medical examination
  • Psychological assessment

When you pass these remaining steps, you will either:

  • Attend the Police Academy as a non-certified, paid recruit
  • Start a police orientation for state certified officers
