Hurricane Milton Debris Removal Updates

As we continue our recovery efforts, city trucks have been joined by contractors working to help us clear the piles of debris left behind by Milton. Crews will be making multiple passes throughout the city until it’s all cleaned up.

City crews are focusing on:

  • Bagged and bundled debris
  • Construction debris
  • household appliances

Contractors will be collecting:

  • Unbundled debris
  • Large vegetation

Storm Debris Collection 

Our Solid Waste crews have already begun the removal of small yard waste that is bagged or bundled. Over the coming weeks, crews will make multiple passes throughout the city to pick up larger household and yard debris. In some instances, crews may not be able to remove all debris at the curb on the same day. They will be back, and we ask for your patience. Reporting storm debris placed at the curb will help us clean up more efficiently and ensure we don't miss your property during citywide cleanup.

Report Storm Debris

Helpful Tips: 

Place debris at the edge of your property before the curb, not in the street or blocking sidewalks, and clear from mailboxes, trees, poles, fire hydrants, storm drains and overhead utilities.

Separate debris into the following piles:

  • Bagged or bundled yard waste – smaller vegetation such as leaves and twigs
  • Large vegetation – tree stumps, large branches, etc. that could not be bagged or bundled
  • Construction debris – building materials such as fencing, roofing, lumber, drywall, carpet, furniture, mattresses, etc.
  • Appliances – refrigerators (remove all food and remove or secure doors), washers, dryers, freezers, water heaters, etc.

Please do not park vehicles in front of debris piles. Crews cannot remove them when they are blocked.

Any debris placed on private property will not be collected.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is not able to be picked up curbside. Please visit orlando.gov/hhwrules for a list of HHW items and drop off locations.

Please note that this operation is ONLY for disaster debris. Please do not attempt to place garbage or other household refuse with the disaster debris, as it will not be accepted. Household garbage and recycling must be placed in city-issued carts.

Contractors hired by a homeowner for tree trimming, fence repair/replacement, or construction are responsible for hauling away all yard waste, fencing, and construction materials.

It is helpful if customers bag or bundle as much of the debris as possible. 

Bags and bundles can be collected by both the manual yard waste crews and claw trucks. Duct tape and twine work well for bundling yard waste. This doubles the number of staff that can assist our gated communities with restoration. 

Keep it separated – vegetative storm debris (tree limbs, branches, and other organic debris) should always be separated from construction debris (shingles, fencing, pressure-treated wood, drywall, etc.).
