Mayor Buddy Dyer’s vision is for Orlando to be a community in which every citizen has the knowledge, skills and ability to recognize and treat sudden cardiac arrest.

We've trained 150,000 residents who live, work and visit Orlando.

Through our hands-only CPR and Automated External Defibrillator training, combined with strategic AED placement and the PulsePoint mobile app technology, we will make Orlando the safest city in America. 

In the United States, more than 350,000 sudden cardiac arrests (SCA) occur annually. For every minute that goes by without CPR, a person has a 10% reduced chance of living. So within six minutes of no help, a person only has a 40% chance of survival.

Get Involved

Heartsaver CPR AED is a certified video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and how to relieve choking in adults, children and infants. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.

  1. Call 911.

  2. Kneel beside the person who needs help.

  3. Place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest.

  4. Place the heel of the other hand on top of the first hand.

  5. Position your body so that your shoulders are directly over your hands and keep your arms straight.

  6. Push hard, push fast. Use your body weight to help you administer compressions that are at least 2 inches deep and delivered at a rate of at least 100-120 compressions per minute. (Just be sure to let chest rise completely between compressions.)

  7. Keep pushing. Continue hands-only CPR until you see obvious signs of life, like breathing, another trained responder or EMS professional can take over, you're too exhausted to continue, an AED becomes available, or the scene becomes unsafe.
